I am a mother, teacher, daughter, wife. I began my career teaching elementary PE and coaching middle school athletics in San Antonio ISD. Soon after my coaching career began, I became an Adapted PE Specialist with Northside ISD. This is my dream job! I love my district and I love working with my students. I have a special interest in working with students that are diagnosed with Autism; however, I have a love for working with all students/adults that have special needs.
Fitness is needed for all and one person's fitness level does not determine the next person's fitness level. Working with Autism Fitness has given me an understanding of progressions and regressions as pertinent to the goal of the individual. I currently am working with students at the district level and have worked with other colleagues, teaching the strategies used to decrease behaviors and increase fitness levels. At some point, I hope to work with the community that I live in to increase fitness opportunities for the special needs population.
I found an amazing product that I currently sell. It helps reduce behaviors and escalations, giving a calming effect to students that have been overstimulated. It has an amazing response in contingency related outcomes when used as a reinforcer for task completion. In other words, students will work to receive this as a reward.
