My name is Jose Caro, I am from Toronto, Canada and I have been working with individuals with an autism diagnosis since 2010 as a private instructor therapist and fitness trainer. My aspirations to work in the field of autism developed in 2010 from my soccer coaching experience with boys under the age of 5. During this volunteering opportunity, I encountered a child who demonstrated challenges with the understanding of verbal instructions and physical demands. I made it my duty to assist him in an attempt to increase his level of interaction with his teammates as well as coordination, balance, stability and control. This experience motivated me to educate myself on what the diagnosis of autism actually is and increase my understanding on strengths and weaknesses that each individual may have. Simultaneously, this encouraged me to volunteer with an instructor therapist who works with individuals with autism and learn how to effectively work with this population.
